Latcham, Arthur (1895-1979)

Biographical history

Arthur "Art" Latcham, to whom the collection is dedicated, was born in 1895 and was one of seven children living with his family on a farm in Glasgow, a town in what was then known as Uxbridge Township Ontario. A philanthropist in the York Region of Ontario Latcham was a member of the Hat and Rabbit club, and a magic enthusiast. Art Latcham died on August 10, 1979 and is buried in the Glasgow North Cemetery.
The first Stouffville Magic Festival was organized in his honour in 1982. The magic collection was created by the festival's organizer and town librarian, George Schulkbier. The Art Latcham Magic Collection was first dedicated during the first Stouffville Magic Festival on May 9th, 1982.

Custodial history

Collection was transferred from Witchurch-Stouffville Public Library to Archives and Research Collections in November, 2012.
