General note

A first sequence consists of commercial cartes-de-visite, cabinet photographs and "real photo" postcards of gravestones produced by photographers or monument wholesalers, and sold initially as an alternative to design books and later as shop illustrations of monuments available from wholesalers. Where the producer is not identified, the photographs have been filed by size or subject. A second sequence consists de Carle gravestone and business photographs, including photographs of the memorial works and employees, and glass plate and celluloid negatives and prints of completed work produced for or by the de Carles' Brockville Cemetery Memorial Works. Some prints made from the glass negatives in the period around 1910 are included here, but the negatives also include images of people and are boxed separately. Gravestone snapshot prints and celluloid negatives taken by Victor de Carle of work completed in the 1920s are also boxed separately, such as the glass negatives, pending later arrangement. Finally, there are files of family and business photographs, three family photo albums (two of the de Carles and one of the Grants), and six files of mostly unidentified family photographs.
