History
Walter Bertram Herbert was born in August 23, 1901. He attended the University of Alberta graduating with a B. A. and a LL. B. His major contribution to Carleton University was in his role as a charter member in the founding of the University. He has also served as a long-time member of Carleton University's Senate, and for a time as lecturer in Journalism. For his support and the work he has done in the field of public relations, Carleton University conferred upon him the honourary degree Doctorate of Law and Letters, June 1, 1977. In addition to this, Herbert was given awards and honours for his work and outstanding achievements: Officer of the Order of Canada (1968); Doctorate of Laws honoris causa University of Alberta; Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts; Honorary Diploma Canadian Art Council (1958); Canadian Council Medal (1965); the National Medal and the Press Medal from the Canadian Public Relations Society; and, The Silver Acorn Medal from the Boy Scouts of Canada (1977).
