Editorial Board

This sub-series consists of minutes taken from the CEECT Editorial Board.

The Editorial Board was concerned primarily with the practicalities of editorial procedures specific to each CEECT text. The frequency of the Board's meetings varied; the Board's meetings were monthly in the beginning, and were held three of four times annually in later years.

The Backwoods of Canada

This sub-series includes material related to permission letters, processes, collations, and microfilm. The permission letter files consist of advertised requests and related correspondence for the original editions of The Backwoods of Canada.

Michael A. Peterman edited The Backwoods of Canada (1836) by Catharine Parr Traill in 1997, the eleventh CEECT scholarly text. This publication is abbreviated BAC throughout the CEECT fonds.

Roughing it in the Bush or Life in Canada

This sub-series includes collation and microfilm pertaining to the production of Roughing it in the Bush. There are ten microfilm reels of Roughing it in the Bush or Life in Canada (1852, 1854, 1857, 1871) as used for collation.

Carl Ballstadt edited Roughing it in the Bush or Life in Canada (1852) by Susanna Moodie in 1988, the fifth CEECT scholarly text. This publication is abbreviated ROB/RIB throughout the CEECT fonds.

Correspondence

This sub-series consists of correspondence between Centre for Editing Early Canadian Texts staff and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) staff pertaining to grants administered by SSHRC and applications for SSHRC funding.

CEECT regularly corresponded with Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council staff from 1981-1995 regarding its applications and grants for funding.

Antoinette de Mirecourt or Secret Marrying and Secret Sorrowing

This sub-series includes permission letters, collations, and microfilm relating to the production of Antoinette de Mirecourt or Secret Marrying and Secret Sorrowing. The permission files consist of correspondence with the Royal Ontario Museum and Carleton University Press regarding photographs of Cornelius Kriegnoff, August Kollner and Alice Killay's work. There is one microfilm reel of Antoinette de Mirecourt or Secret Marrying and Secret Sorrowing as used for collation.

John C. Stockdale edited Antoinette de Mirecourt or Secret Marrying and Secret Sorrowing (1864) by Rosanna Leprohon in 1989, the sixth CEECT scholarly text. This publication is abbreviated ANT throughout the CEECT fonds.

Publicity

This sub-series includes press releases, reviews, book receptions, articles about CEECT, newsletters, and conference papers delivered on CEECT and its publications.

CEECT actively publicized its project through book launches, book reviews, and contact with major national newspapers. The editors of the CEECT editions participated in international conferences regarding their involvement with the project, and many of these papers were later published in scholarly professional journals. CEECT also published its own newsletter which was distributed internationally to universities, scholars, libraries, and museums.

Carleton University Press

This sub-series consists of correspondence with Carleton University Press (CUP), including press catalogues.

Carleton University Press (CUP) published and launched each of CEECT's editions. Michael Gnarowski, Director of CUP, was a prominent figure in the publication process of these texts, and served on CEECT's Editorial Board.

CEECT related

This sub-series consists of correspondence related to CEECT-related activities including the Informal Colloquium.

CEECT invited and consulted American scholar David Nordloh on editorial principles in the early stages of the project. In 1981, CEECT held an Informal Colloquium between the CEECT Editorial Board and David Nordloh with a particular focus on the editorial practices that CEECT would employ with its editors and texts.

Steering Committee

This sub-series is comprised of minutes of the CEECT Steering Committee.

The Steering Committee originally consisted of six members: Mary Jane Edwards, Mary Durance, Jeremy Palin, Sydney Wise, Robert Laird, and Robert McDougall. In later years, the Committee was expanded to include other Carleton University faculty such as Thomas Ryan, Carl Amberg, Naomi Griffiths, Ian Cameron, and Dennis Forcese. The Committee's objective was to establish the administration and funding of the CEECT editorial project. Tasks included selection of texts and determining the editorial principles and procedures for CEECT. The Committee convened every second week 1979-1982, at which time the Committee was dissolved and replaced by the Editorial Board.

The Clockmaker

This sub-series includes collation material and microfilm pertaining to The Clockmaker. The microfilm file consists of twelve microfilm reels of The Clockmaker, Series One, Series two, Series Three as used for collation.

George L. Parker edited The Clockmaker, Series One, Two and Three (1836, 1838, 1840) by Thomas Chandler Haliburton in 1995, the tenth CEECT scholarly text. This publication is abbreviated SAM throughout the CEECT fonds.
