Design and design books

This sub-series consists of original and published sketches, prints, templates, blueprints, lithographs and photographs of designs and inscriptions for gravestones, monuments, and fonts, as well as material for ancillary design elements. In addition to designs created by Lancelot de Carle, correspondence and pamphlets from suppliers as well as outside source documents provide additional stylistic examples.

Ontario Business College

This sub-series is comprised of various practice and examination books belonging to Charles W. de Carle and John E. de Carle when they attended theOntario Business College, Belleville. This sub-series also includes various pieces of correspondence and publications.

Newspapers

This sub-series is comprised of numerous newspaper clippings, come of which contain articles or advertisements pertaining to the de Carle or Grant families or their business.

Aberdeen correspondence

This sub-series consists of incoming handwritten correspondence from suppliers in Aberdeen, Scotland to Lancelot, Leopold, Charles and Victor de Carle, regarding new orders as well as invoices for completed work. Most letters include detailed diagrams ('tracings') and some also have related bills of lading attached. This correspondence, from Gerrie & Nicol (1892-December 1895); Alexander Nicol (March 1896); Henderson & Webster (March 1897); Peter Gerrie (March 1897-1912); The British Granite & Marble Co. (April 1908); and William Edwards & Son (April 1914) dates from 1892 through to 1919. Contemporary newspaper clippings are attached to several letters.

General publications

This sub-series is comprised of novels, serials, sports, gardening, poultry, and photography magazines and general interest publications belonging to the de Carle family. These have been arranged chronologically. There is also a copy of the Rituale Romanum belonging to the parish priest at Williamstown.

Family and business photographs

This sub-series consists of business and personal photographs, chiefly black & white, of the de Carle family, the Brockville Cemetery Marble/Memorial Works and the Grant family. These include loose photographs, post cards, and 3 albums. Photographs include: the Brockville Cemetery Marble/Memorial Works building and surrounding area; examples of the graveyard, headstones and mausoleums; photographs of the de Carle residences and family members, and of the Grant family members.

Wholesale catalogs and advertising matter

This sub-series consists of wholesale catalogs and advertising matter accumulated and created by the de Carle family monument business. Included are catalogs, pamphlets, price lists and photographs from Canadian and American manufacturers, dealers and purveyors of memorial goods and services, as well as advertising pamphlets produced by Lancelot de Carle.
