This sub-series consists of records created and accumulated by John Ivan Rempel [ca. 1938] – 1983. Rempel was an architectural historian and architect wrote and worked in the areas of historic building technology and restoration.

The sub-series includes documents on various architectural and construction related topics, and documentation related to some of his consulting work, such as research for the Fort William reconstruction.

Historical: Valentine

This sub-series consists of reference material collected by Canadian architect Hugh Allen Inglis Valentine. Valentine was a sessional lecturer in the McGill University School of Architecture from 1957 to 1967, where Herb Stovel was also a student, graduating in 1972.

The material in this subseries consists of copies of the Architecture’s Portfolio series of collections of photographs illustrating architectural details, and other articles on architecture.

Geographic

This sub-series consists of grey literature, pamphlets, and documents related to various geographic locations visited by Herb Stovel during the course of his travel. The items collected include information and pamphlets on historic sites in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

This series consists of reference and research material accumulated by Herb Stovel. This series is divided into the following sub-series: Teaching and Instruction, Geographic, Historical: Valentine, and Historical: Rempel.

The first sub-series Teaching and Instruction includes syllabi, course guidelines, correspondence, and readings associated with his teaching positions at Université de Montréal, Carleton University, the University of Vermont, and the University of Victoria.

The second sub-series Geographic includes material related to geographic locations and heritage sites over the course of his travel.

The third and fourth sub-series also includes historic material accumulated by architects Hugh Allen Inglis Valentine and John Ivan Rempel.
