Editors

This sub-series consists of correspondence between the editors for each of the CEECT texts, including correspondence with museums, libraries, and major newspapers.

There were eleven editors for CEECT, one for each edition. Each editor was responsible for the text's introduction and appendices which contextualized the CEECT edition. The editors participated in numerous CEECT-related activities including but not exclusive to the 1983 CEECT conference and subsequent publications pertaining to the edited texts. The eleven editors included Michael A. Peterman, George L. Parker, Call Ballstadt, Mary Jane Edwards, Douglas R. Cronk, Donald Stephens, Rupert Schieder, Douglas G. Lochhead, John C. Stockdale, Gwendolyn Davies, and Malcolm Parks.

Carleton University

This sub-series consists of correspondence with Carleton University faculty and staff with a particular focus on funding.

CEECT conducted much of its business through and with Carleton University. Several departments at Carleton University contributed financially to CEECT; funds came from the Dean of Arts, the Dean of Graduate Studies, Dean of Social Sciences, and Dean of Science.

Miscellaneous

This sub-series consists of correspondence with various departments at Carleton University, including the Organized Research Unit reports for CEECT and material related to the two CEECT conferences.

CEECT developed relationships with several different departments at Carleton University. CEECT was an Organized Research Unit that contributed to the field of early Canadian literature and scholarly editing. The project also participated in various international literary history programs such as the Canadian/Australian Histoire du Livre. CEECT contributed to the field of scholarly editing with its two conferences in 1983 and 1993, "CEECT Conference on Editorial Principles and Procedures."

Centre for Editing Early Canadian Texts conferences

This sub-series includes eighteen audio tapes from the 1981 informal colloquium and 1983 conference, both of which were concerned with the editorial procedures of scholarly texts

CEECT held two conferences in 1983 and 1993 pertaining to scholarly editing procedures. The Social Sciences and Humanities Research of Canada grant awarded to CEECT in 1981 stipulated CEECT host a conference on its practices and the contribution of its work to the field of scholarly editing in Canada and elsewhere.

St. Ursula's Convent or the Nun of Canada

This sub-series includes permission letters and collation. The permission letter files consist of correspondence with various archives and museums for permission to use a portrait of Julia Catherine Beckwith Hart in the CEECT edition.

Douglas G. Lochhead edited St. Ursula's Convent or the Nun of Canada (1824) by Julia C.B. Hart in 1991, the eighth CEECT scholarly text. This publication is abbreviated STU throughout the CEECT fonds.

Manuals

This sub-series includes eight manuals compiled and published concerning the editorial principles of CEECT and procedures necessary to facilitate the editorial process.

CEECT published several manuals pertaining to scholarly editorial procedures and other activities related to the publications of each CEECT edition. Various publications resulted from the 1983 Conference. CEECT also published instructional manuals for the computer programs and databases created by CEECT for the publication of its texts.

Grant Files

This sub-series consists of grant files and annual reports submitted by CEECT regarding SSHRC funding, including Editorial Board comments.

CEECT received major grants from SSHRC in 1981 and 1986. The stipulations of these grants required CEECT to submit annual and semi-annual reports as well as support letters.
