A group of people beside the street. El Salvador
A group of some ten people sitting around a table at a restaurant. Mission For Peace in El Salvador (1986-87). I cannot recall the name of one of the members. She was from Quebec. The others were Meyer Brownstone Head of mission, General Leonard Johnson (retired), Dr. John Savage, mayor of Dartmouth Nova Scotia and later Premier of Nova Scotia, and Nancy Thede an anthropologist from McGill who also served as an interpreter for the member whose name I have forgotten but who was either a trade unionist or a human rights activist. Her name can be found in the file b3 f 5 I believe which contains a report of the mission. This mission is a good example of Oxfam`s advocacy process and in this case engaging parliamentarians who provided excellent and credible reports to parliament and the press on their return to Canada. ( as well as offering to address public meetings organized by Oxfam.
