Forced removal of refugees from La Virtud to relocation at (M). Note the hoes being saved by a refugee. This relocation was part of the US, El Salvador, Honduras scheme to clear the border area and militarize it as an alleged barrier against the FLMN and the Sandinista government in Nicaragua. There was a failed attempt to relocate both Colomancagua and Mesa Grande which generated strong opposition from the refugees who feared being removed further from home. The UNHCR played a very dubious role in this scheme and earned the hostility of the refugees and protests to Geneva. Honduras, ca. 1985
