Carleton courses

The series includes course and lecture notes used by S.F. Wise for the history courses he taught at Carleton University. Included are the research notes used by Wise to create his course lectures. Also included are subject files.

Professor Sydney Wise began teaching at Carleton University, Department of History in 1973. He taught courses such as Introductory Canadian History (1973-1978), Maritime Provinces (1975-1976), Canadian Social History (1975-1977), Canadian Historiography (1977-1978) and a graduate course entitled Canadian Intellectual History (1968-1978). He remained teaching until he became Director, Institute of Canadian Studies (1978).

Graduate studies and advising

The series consists of administrative records of Carleton University Graduate Programs, fellowships, and committees. Many of the files pertain to students to whom S.F. Wise was a thesis advisor.

Sydney Wise was the Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, from 1981-1990.

Committees

The series consists of records created by and accumulated by Sydney Wise while participating in various committee. The majority of the series includes documentation on the activities of the Ontario Heritage Foundation (OHF), and its Historical and Archaeological Committees. The records of the OHF document administrative activities, Board/Executive minutes, conferences, and events. The series also contains records of other committees such as the Hamilton and Scourge Technical Committee, Conservation Review Board, Ottawa Teacher's College, and the Provincial Affairs Committee.

Professor Wise has participated in numerous organizations during his years as a scholar. One such organization has been The Ontario Heritage Foundation and its various committees; Trust Committee, Building Conservation Committee, Historical Committee, and Archaeology Committee.

Sports history

This series consists primarily of research material, including numerous biographies, collected by Sydney Wise, as well as draft copies of manuscript chapters for a history of sport written by Professor Wise and Douglas Fisher. Correspondence with the publisher is also included.

Carleton committees and speaking engagements

The series consists of records created by Sydney Wise while participating in committees and speaking engagements at Carleton University. About half of the records document Wise's work in Carleton's Institute of Canadian Studies. The rest of the records document his involvement in other groups; The Carleton University Press, Search Committee for Chancellor, Carleton Library Board, and the Honorary Degree Committee.

Sydney Wise was at Carleton University for twenty-three years as a Professor of History, Director of Canadian Studies, and Dean of Graduate Studies.

Miscellaneous

This series contains a photograph, bibliographies and subject files, a portion of a Quebec National Assembly report (1991): Les enjeus de la réforme caustitutionnelle (Charles Taylor); as well as an account of the life and career of Sydney Wise.

Video collection

This series consists of military videos that Sydney Wise had collected between 1992-2002. The series also contains an interview with S. Wise on the Rogers Community channel.
