Chronology

The sub-series consists of war diaries collected between 1915-1918. Instead of being sorted by division, Wise had organized them in chronological order.

Archival research

The sub-series consists of a mixture of military documents regarding the Australian and Canadian armies. The sub-series also includes researched collected from the John Monash diary.

Pre-December 1917

The sub-series consists of background information on World War I that Sydney Wise had collected. Included are articles, bibliographies, e-mail correspondence and groups and Internet articles relating to World War I. There are also clipped articles from original Military Affairs journals contained within this sub-series.

Canadian Corps research

The sub-series contains correspondence and war diaries primarily. Research collected from Sir Douglas Haig's diary, Du Cane memos as well as selections from the Bean and Monash collections. Rawlinson's diaries are also used.

Video collection

This series consists of military videos that Sydney Wise had collected between 1992-2002. The series also contains an interview with S. Wise on the Rogers Community channel.

Personal files

This series consists of written records and photographs created and accumulated by Prof. Wise in the course of his career at Carleton University, as well as his time in the Canadian government and military. It includes personal and professional correspondence; project and committee research and conference documentation; drafts and reviews of his publications and various specialized series proposals; theses documentation and correspondence related to his role as an advisor; texts of addresses and other papers and speeches; transcripts of CBC Air Series interviews; and other office correspondence related to his many academic activities and research, including lecture notes, and search committee documentation and correspondence.

The fonds consists of 17 series that document the academic life and interests of Sydney Wise. The series include: Academic notes (1946-1959); Queen's University (1955-1966); New Democratic Party (1961-1965); Sports history (1972-1974); Book reviews, articles, etc. (1957-1974); Carleton courses (1967-1978); RCAF Chapter briefings (1963-1987); RCAF history (1914-1991); Historical associations, Societies and Boards (1965-1995); Committees (1971-1995); Carleton Committees and speaking engagements (1976-1995); Recommendations, appraisals and criticisms (1966-1995); Graduate studies and advising (1967-1990); The Long vacation (1914-1918); Video collection (1992-2002); Miscellaneous (1986-2007); and Personal files (1953-1995). The series files have been arranged according to the series numbers (where available) designated by Professor Wise's office secretary in the Directorate of History Department of National Defence. When these numbers are not present the files have been arranged chronologically.
