The Clockmaker

This sub-series includes collation material and microfilm pertaining to The Clockmaker. The microfilm file consists of twelve microfilm reels of The Clockmaker, Series One, Series two, Series Three as used for collation.

George L. Parker edited The Clockmaker, Series One, Two and Three (1836, 1838, 1840) by Thomas Chandler Haliburton in 1995, the tenth CEECT scholarly text. This publication is abbreviated SAM throughout the CEECT fonds.

Applications

This sub-series consists of applications submitted by CEECT, including letters of intent and supporting documentation for SSHRC funding.

CEECT applied for major editorial negotiated grants in 1981 and 1986. These applications required CEECT to demonstrate its research and intent at each stage of the process.

Editors

This sub-series consists of correspondence between the editors for each of the CEECT texts, including correspondence with museums, libraries, and major newspapers.

There were eleven editors for CEECT, one for each edition. Each editor was responsible for the text's introduction and appendices which contextualized the CEECT edition. The editors participated in numerous CEECT-related activities including but not exclusive to the 1983 CEECT conference and subsequent publications pertaining to the edited texts. The eleven editors included Michael A. Peterman, George L. Parker, Call Ballstadt, Mary Jane Edwards, Douglas R. Cronk, Donald Stephens, Rupert Schieder, Douglas G. Lochhead, John C. Stockdale, Gwendolyn Davies, and Malcolm Parks.

Manuals

This sub-series includes eight manuals compiled and published concerning the editorial principles of CEECT and procedures necessary to facilitate the editorial process.

CEECT published several manuals pertaining to scholarly editorial procedures and other activities related to the publications of each CEECT edition. Various publications resulted from the 1983 Conference. CEECT also published instructional manuals for the computer programs and databases created by CEECT for the publication of its texts.

Editorial Board

This sub-series consists of minutes taken from the CEECT Editorial Board.

The Editorial Board was concerned primarily with the practicalities of editorial procedures specific to each CEECT text. The frequency of the Board's meetings varied; the Board's meetings were monthly in the beginning, and were held three of four times annually in later years.

The Backwoods of Canada

This sub-series includes material related to permission letters, processes, collations, and microfilm. The permission letter files consist of advertised requests and related correspondence for the original editions of The Backwoods of Canada.

Michael A. Peterman edited The Backwoods of Canada (1836) by Catharine Parr Traill in 1997, the eleventh CEECT scholarly text. This publication is abbreviated BAC throughout the CEECT fonds.

Publicity

This sub-series includes press releases, reviews, book receptions, articles about CEECT, newsletters, and conference papers delivered on CEECT and its publications.

CEECT actively publicized its project through book launches, book reviews, and contact with major national newspapers. The editors of the CEECT editions participated in international conferences regarding their involvement with the project, and many of these papers were later published in scholarly professional journals. CEECT also published its own newsletter which was distributed internationally to universities, scholars, libraries, and museums.

General

This sub-series consists of the general correspondence as related to CEECT's research, including publicity correspondence with major Canadian newspapers.

CEECT support staff was in contact with academic institutions, such as museums, libraries, individual scholars, rare book dealers and collectors. Much of CEECT's research was conducted through general correspondence. This contact also served as a form of publicity for CEECT and its texts.

Grant Files

This sub-series consists of grant files and annual reports submitted by CEECT regarding SSHRC funding, including Editorial Board comments.

CEECT received major grants from SSHRC in 1981 and 1986. The stipulations of these grants required CEECT to submit annual and semi-annual reports as well as support letters.
