The John H. McDonald Journalism Foundation is a Canadian charitable foundation associated with Canadian University Press. It was established in 1987, and was named after CUP’s first president, John H. McDonald, who was an editor of The McGill Daily, one of the member papers of CUP.

Functions, occupations and activities

The Foundation fosters and supports Canadian journalism students, regardless of whether they work for a CUP member paper or not. To that end, they provide educational programs and opportunities, through donations from newspaper publishing companies and individual journalists. They also help fund national conferences and the creation of style and writing guides, create opportunities for writing positions across Canada, and hold an annual awards ceremony in honour of student journalism.
