History

W. McAllister Johnson was Professor Emeritus in Fine Art and the Graduate Department of History of Art at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Johnson was an American-born art historian who studied under Erwin Panofsky, one of the 20th century's leading art historians, before coming to Canada in the 1960s to teach. He published on a variety of subjects, including French graphic art of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the discipline of art history, and French mannerist painting and engraving.
