History
Following the 1975 United Nations First World Conference on the Status of Women, MATCH International Centre was founded in Ottawa in 1976 as an organization dedicated to advancing the status of women in developing countries. The organization was funded by donations matched by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). MATCH concentrated its work on partnership with and funding of grassroots women organizations in the global South. The stated aim of the organization was to facilitate the full integration of women in development process. Initiatives toward this aim included funding toward women's reproductive health education and practice, food and childcare cooperatives, sustainable entrepreneurial endeavours and actions to eliminate violence against women. MATCH International Centre was dissolved after CIDA cut funding to the organization in April 2010 though MATCH International reformed and in 2013 created the MATCH International Women's Fund.
