Administrative history
The idea for the formation of the society was that of Hannah Clemann (Aplin), a recorder player whose family was Swiss. Peggy Atherton knew her as a member of CANMAC. The committee included Hannah Clemann, Peggy Atherton, Barbara Zuchowicz, Karen Holmes, Judith Auerbach (Miller) and others. Judith Auerbach arranged for the Italian Embassy to sponsor one concert at the Basilica on Sussex Ave. Some of the concerts were reviewed. The was only one member of the Society -- Mrs. Betty Brown, who purchased a subscription to the concerts. Concerts were financed by ticket sales, and also by donations given at one or more house concerts. The orgranization folded in 1988. Some of the performers, or groups, who first appeared in Ottawa under the Society's sponsorship have since become well known, such as Suzie LeBlanc, the Arion Ensemble, and the Toronto Consort.
Custodial history
The records were donated to the Archives and Research Collections by Peggy Atherton in 2013.
