Biographical history
Professor of Chemistry Paul MacDonell Laughton came to Carleton College in 1951, as a Lecturer in Chemistry. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1952, Associate Professor in 1958, and Full Professor of Chemistry in 1965. While at Carleton, Professor Laughton was active in numerous committees and university activities. He served as Chairman of the Library Committee from 1954-1956, as Chairman of the Science Committee 1955/1956; Acting Chairman on the Committee on Curriculum 1955-1956; Chairman on the Committee on Student Personnel Services; as a Member on the Building Advisory Committee on Student Residences from 1958 to 1965; as well as a Senate Electoral Officer from 1966 to 1968. As well, Laughton served as Acting Chairman of the Department of Chemistry from 1960-1961. Paul Laughton retired from Carleton University in 1989.
